CHEMICAL, PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF CLAYEY SOIL WITH ADDITION OF CARBIDE LIME

Abstract

The acetylene gas is used as fuel in the industries causes environmental requirements concerning by the disposal of the waste from their manufacture, known as carbide lime (HL), which is processed for a solid form. Thus, recycling results in the reduction of solid waste storage, and prevent, for example, the exploitation of raw material for manufacture of industrial limes. In this scenario, we investigate the behavior of a clay soil when added carbide lime 2% and 4% as soon as the natural condition and aged in an oven at 110°C for 2 hours. For this purpose, characterized samples for chemical analysis of macro and micro-nutrients (Ca, Mg, K, Al, P, Zn) ¾  where calcium, magnesium and aluminum exchangeable were extracted by 1N KCl, also on physical indexes recommended by the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards ¾  size, Atterberg limits and compaction. Finally, we carried out mechanical tests of compression strength (MCS) and resilient modulus (RM). Regarding the chemical properties were obtained through atomic absorption spectrophotometer concentrations of macronutrients and micronutrients, such as levels of P (phosphorus) relatively low in samples of soil and effect of CC in high clay content retain more phosphorus and present factorsspecific adsorption anions by retaining the solid phase by strong bonds (covalent), becoming part of the structure of the micelle. In contrast, the presence of organic matter and calcium ions (Ca2+) and magnesium (Mg2+) increases the cation exchange capacity (CEC), improves the structure and the buffer capacity of the soil leaving the pH stable.
